Jets is a mobile game in which you lead your paper plane safely through an obstacle-ridden cardboard world. You can do this in a fun-packed single player mode, or use your social media account to challenge friends.

Jets’ first levels are set in Amsterdam and New York City. Fly your plane through the old city center of Amsterdam and over its famous canals. Or enjoy the view from the Statue of Liberty and find your way through New York City’s crowded Times Square.

Various UI Assets

These are just a hand full of the UI texture elements I created. Most elements had to be created in
powers of two and nice-sliced. Some worked out better in an atlas.

Interface design

Created a paper and cardboard designs and integrated all the assets into Unity 3D prefabs. All
prefabs work very well with all kinds of canvas resolutions, from iOS and Android phones
and various tablets.

Character design

For Jets, the main character is a paper airplane. KLM wanted an airplane that could actually fly
in real life and that didn’t exist already. In the sheet below you will see the paper prototype
and different designs of the actual plane I created.

Wire frames

Below you are able to see one of the many wire frames I created. This is flow was created with all the features wises of the client and stakeholder.

Promotional & Store Art

Using Unity 3D and levels from the game I created these scenes, rendering them 8 times bigger
that the actual game. I took the raw renders to Photoshop to brush everything smooth and pixel
perfect, re-drawing the airplane and adding wind, light new background skyline effects

KLM Aviation Empire

KLM Aviation Empire

By  Little Chicken Game Company
Client   KLM
Role  2D & UI Art Art Direction
Platform  Mobile – Tablet
Launched  2013

Aviation Empire is a 3D strategy game in which you run your own airline. The main challenge: make money and conquer the globe! Invest in a well-maintained and up to date fleet, create a profitable network with international destinations and build your airports with all kinds of facilities that make your passengers happy.

Trailer

Logo design

For Aviation Empire’s logo I first started out by creating some logo’s with the ‘work in progress name’ Airlinemanager. After a brainstorm the name ‘Aviation Empire’ came up. With this new name I’ve started digging through all of KLM’s branding. Because the game gives you insight of the whole history of the company, I felt it was the right choice to use the first logo from KLM from 1920 as reference. It had this amazing design and feel which I wanted to incorporate into our game logo.

I started sketching up modern and more styled versions and came up with these concepts. KLM’s own blue logo also had to be integrated and thus, the final logo was born.

Internet of Elephants

Internet of Elephants

By  Little Chicken Game Company
Client   Internet of Elephants
Role  Concept / Prototype design & art
Platform  Mobile – PC
Launched  2016

Internet of Elephants is a social enterprise based in Kenya and the United States. They are a collaboration of technologists, conservationists, educators, game designers, and strategists working together towards a stronger connection between people and wild animals.

For this purpose I was able to create a number of concepts and prototypes.

A promotional piece I created for the testing audience

Concepts

Various concept and designs ideas, from a elephant roulette, to a wildlife safari in your own town or taking care of a baby elephant.

A concept where you can creating a dream team of animals that would cover the greatest distance and play against friends.

Augmented Reality Application

Below are the Interface and visual I created using photoshop, illustrator, wacom intuos 3 and Unity 3D.

Game prototype 01

The very first prototype was created to test if playing with real animal data (gps data of the behavior of an elephant) would be fun and make players more connected to wildlife thousands of miles away.

Each day Amelie would walk a distance and players had to quess were she would go, determined on the behavior of the elephant.

Game prototype 2

Created a second prototype where you are able to get more information about Amelie and follow her. I wanted to give the players a better feeling of where they are, so instead of a very styles map like in the first prototype I wanted to have a map that would show the environment.

Role  UI design

Launched  2016

Craft is a simulation that teaches students the protocols of isolating tubes, keeping heat in or out. I was able to create and improve the interfaces. This simulation would be used by a target audience who is not very skilled at playing computer games or navigating with two hands.

Craft is made with Unity 3D and uses a Coherent UI – HTML5-based User Interface. This gave me a very nice introduction into HTML 5, bootstrap and the use of SCSS.

Created with Adobe Animate and Adobe photoshop I was responsible for the overall 2D visual look and feel, interface, animation, promotion material and annual newsletters with new crafting material.

Also the logo had to fit into this world full of paper and cardboard. So the logo also got a slight crafted touch for this project.

The whole background and many of the art assets are crafted with traditional mediums, for example the background is a mix of ecoline, ink and white paint on paper. Scanned, cleaned and layered in photoshop on top of cardboard texture. The globe and character were created by the teams 3D artist.

Art assets

A hand full of the traditional crafted game assets for the avatar builder.

A game created for Voedingscentrum Nederland (Nutrition Center) that shows children that vegetables are good for you and that moving is healthy. The Nutrition Center wanted to use the  ‘monkey see, monkey do’ behavior, to make them more interested in fruit and vegetables through this game.

Monkey is outside in his world and cheers happily from branch to branch. By using his tail as a spring, he maneuvers and bounces his way up. On the branches are different fruits and vegetables and the goal is to collect as many pieces as possible. For each piece, Monkey gets points and he can jump higher. Some vegetables or fruits even provide extra life or rocket power.
